Acclaimed London-based chef Scott Hallsworth will return to his home town of Collie for two special dining experiences in support of this year’s Telethon.
The 48-year-old, famed for his Japanese-inspired restaurants and stint as head chef at Nobu London, will cook for 450 lucky diners across two Feast at the Quarry events in Wellington National Park.
On October 14, Hallsworth will prepare a four-course, fine-dining spectacular for 200 guests at the Quarry Amphitheatre, before hosting a cocktail-style lunch for 250 people at the same venue the following day.
The more formal first event will feature jazz and blues music fromAdam Hall and the Velvet Playboys, while the more casual lunch event will include performances from Chaos + Harmony, Kate Hindle, andScarlet’s Way, all against the backdrop of Guido van Helten’s massive Wellington Dam mural.
Tickets to the first event, The Quarry Table, are $230 per person,while the luncheon costs $150 a head, plus booking fees.
Buses will ferry guests to and from nearby Collie and Bunbury.
After working at Nobu London for six years from 2001, Hallsworth ran his own Japanese kurobuta (or “black pig”) restaurants until mid-2017.
The following year, he launched his pan-Asian diner The Freak Scene in London’s West End before he opened the restaurant’s second venue in partnership with Australian comedian Adam Hills in Fulham.
“It’s a real privilege to be returning home to cook at the Feast at the Quarry this October,” said Hallsworth, who has also published books such as Junk Food Japan and The Japanese Foie Gras Project.
“Not only did my grandfather work on the building of the dam wall, but I spent countless summers swimming and barbecuing there too.
“I’m incredibly excited,” he added, “and can’t wait to be there.”
In addition to the Feast at the Quarry’s culinary events, a silent auction will give one successful bidder a chance to buy a private in-home dining experience with Hallsworth for up to eight people,among other prizes.
The fundraising events are supported by the State Government and the South West Development Commission.
